The History of Falles Festivals
The History of Falles Festivals
Falles Festivals are traditional celebrations in Valencia, Spain, dating back to the Middle Ages. Originally, they were held to mark the arrival of spring and honor Saint Joseph. Today, they are known for their elaborate sculptures, fireworks, and parades.
Each neighborhood constructs a large sculpture, called a falla, that is displayed in the streets before being burned in a symbolic gesture of renewal. The celebrations also include traditional dances, music, and food.
Over the centuries, the Fallas Festivals have evolved into a major cultural event, attracting visitors from around the world. In 2016, the festival was even recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
