Fallas Culture and Customs

Fallas is a traditional celebration in Valencia, Spain, held in March to honor Saint Joseph. The highlight of Fallas is the creation and burning of ninots — large, elaborate papier-mâché figures. The festival also includes parades, fireworks, and music.

Throughout Fallas, neighborhoods in Valencia compete to build the most impressive ninots, which are often satirical in nature, poking fun at politicians, celebrities, or current events. The ninots are displayed in the streets for several days before being set on fire in a spectacular pyrotechnic display known as La Cremà.

In addition to the ninots, Fallas features traditional costumes, dances, and music. The festival also includes other cultural events, such as bullfights, paella contests, and religious processions. Fallas is a time for Valencians to come together, celebrate their heritage, and enjoy the festivities.
