Fallas Festival Traditions and Customs

Fallas Festival Traditions and Customs

The Fallas Festival is a traditional celebration in Valencia, Spain, held annually in March. One of the most iconic traditions of the festival is the construction and burning of elaborate sculptures called «fallas». These sculptures are made of wood, paper-mâché, and other materials, and often depict satirical or humorous scenes.

Throughout the festival, there are parades, music, dancing, and fireworks. Each neighborhood in Valencia also holds its own events, such as paella cooking contests, beauty pageants, and traditional dances. On the final night of the festival, the fallas are set on fire in a spectacular display known as «La Cremà». This symbolizes the end of winter and the coming of spring.
